Valued at a R2 million investment per year, the Sekela Hospitality support programme is a holistic, phased programme that will provide current black-owned hospitality businesses (restaurants, catering companies and accommodation businesses) with back of house training, business coaching, access to capital and business stimulus packages

  Desbaked is a Café and Bakery established in 2016 by Desree Ngema. She always felt something eating inside of her about baking and cooking, even whilst working in the corporate space with various brands. She then started collecting recipes online and started practicing. Her cakes were delicious, but they just didn’t look good. One of her friends said to her “Des, you make delicious cakes, but it’s just a delicious mess!”. She figured out that if she can teach herself how to bake delicious cakes, imagine if she was trained professionally? Des then enrolled at Prue Leith’s Chef’s Academy in 2016, attending classes every Saturday until she graduated. During her six month maternity leave, she started baking and her business took off. She resigned from her job and invested all her savings to start her business. Desbaked started as a business of making wedding cakes. Clients would come to her home for the cake tasting and request slices of cake or cupcakes and this was getting a little too much so she introduced a light menu and this gave birth to the idea of the Café and Bakery. All their products are freshly baked, from making their own bread for the sandwiches and their own pizzas from scratch. They offer great coffee and delicious macarons, cupcakes and, of course, their famous cakes.   Sizzling Catering and Events Management is a hospitality and catering business that was established in September 2008 by Keneilwe Modisane. It was born out of an interest in food and cooking after she spent weekends watching and mimicking what her mom did in the kitchen. and learning from her mother. It is based Gauteng, North West and Mpumalanga Keneilwe Modisane quit her job in 2007 as a manager at a famous shoe retail store to start her business. After working as a sales consultant, then a manager in the retail sector, she began catering on a part-time basis at small events in her hometown, Rustenburg. As her bookings increased, she decided to enrol for a Chef Certificate with Tshwane College from 2007 to 2009, after which she rented a flat in Pretoria and turned the kitchen into a cooking space. Keneiliwe said: "Over weekends, I would spend most of my time watching and learning from my mother. She taught me how to prepare some of her favourite recipes. Even when she was not around, I would come up with my own recipes. I remember one time I did a mayonnaise smoothie.  I've always been innovative when cooking."
